I love makeup, but I don't need a whole lot of it since I wear it roughly once a month (like full glam), and only eyeliner once a week. Skincare is what I care about (always wearing sunscreen, exfoliating and doing all that jazz). Also my hair is pixie length, so I don't need a lot of shampoo, conditioner, and other styling items. So how do I find skincare items? Birchbox.
What is Birchbox? It's a box you get once a month with 4, 5, or 6 large trial-size items of makeup, skincare, hair styling items and sometimes other stuff (like snacks) that comes in the mail and is a special treat for only $10 a month. Those items can be tailored to match your beauty profile if you answer a few questions on the website. My box is focused on anti-aging and skincare.
Here is the company's rundown: Katia and Hayley envisioned a way for customers—just like themselves—to easily and efficiently try, learn about, and purchase beauty products online. They combined monthly deliveries of personalized samples with original editorial and an exciting ecommerce shop. It was easy, efficient, and fun—a monthly delivery of surprise and delight.
Therefore trial sizes are PERFECT for me. As a commitment-phobe I can have a small sample to try out instead of going for a full-size item on a whim and hating it. The best part about Birchbox is how you can review the items you got in your box for points. Each item is ten points. Fifty points is $5 in the shop, but you can't "cash in" until the $10 (or 100 point) mark. So for every box, you get $5 back which is amazing! In the end these trial items are roughly $1 a piece, and since I don't buy any other makeup/skincare stuff (besides sunscreen and lotion) this is such a simple, frugal way to check out luxury products.
